The Embedded Systems Industry is changing to meet future
requirements
A message from Steinar Sande, CEO
The embedded software industry is changing to meet future
requirements. The Raima division of Birdstep Technology has, with
the latest releases of our embedded databases, proven that we
continue to support the ever changing requirements of the embedded
industry. Today you will find "multi-core" as a frequently used term
amongst the real-time operating system vendors. We believe that
multi-core technology is an important piece of the puzzle in the
development of future embedded database requirements. In addition we
here at the Raima division, also see scalability, reliability, high
availability as well as ease of use as critical elements for
delivering future requirements.
The Raima Database Manager products scale from the very small and
nimble footprint requirements of compact devices (RDM Embedded) all
the way up to the less constraint medium sized client server devices
(RDM Server). We have no intention of trying to compete with Oracle,
Microsoft, and Sybase in the enterprise arena but rather will remain
focused on the embedded systems market. However, what we will be
introducing to the market is the ability of our RDM products to feed
data directly into enterprise class databases such as Oracle and SQL
Server. This data movement from devices to the enterprise is
something a significant number of our clients have asked for.
In our latest releases of RDM Embedded we added support for Web
browsers database access with our MicroHTTP Server
(Interoperability) and enhanced our replication solutions (High
Availability). We also made integration between RDM Embedded and RDM
Server much easier by including a RDM Embedded to RDM Server
replication engine. Moving forward we will continue to extend our
product offerings to meet your requirements.
One final comment, I encourage you to contact our VP of Product
Management Duncan Bates

if there are additional feature or functionality you would like to
see added to our embedded database products. Another channel for
product feature requests, I encourage you to use is our Raima Forum
