Raima Meeting Enterprise Requirements - A Message From Raima CEO, Steinar Sande
Over the past two years we have recognized that more and more enterprise requirements are being requested from longtime customers and new customers alike. As the embedded database market continues to grow, software vendors are leveraging a combination of technology and partnerships to meet the enterprise requirements. These requirements span from scalability, distributed databases, replication, load balancing, support for multi-core technology and topping it all off is the ease of use requirement. Furthermore these requirements are in addition to the already well established requirements of today's embedded database including: fast performance; predictability; reliability; and all within a compact footprint.

Raima has over the past three years recognized these developments in the embedded database market and have included many these new requirements into our current products and added many to our future products' roadmaps. Some requirements like, multi-core processor support, have been supported within our RDM Server product for well over a decade. RDM Server, our broadly deployed client server embedded database will continue to meet our customer needs as they grow and change.

Very soon we will be announcing the upcoming release of a brand new version of RDM Embedded (RDMe) version 10. The anticipated release of RDM Embedded 10 is currently planned for the second quarter of this year. RDM Embedded 10 will support multi-core, distributed databases, hot online backup, 2 phase commit and will include many enhancements to existing RDM Embedded functionality. Feedback from current RDM Embedded users has been very positive and in fact several of them have already pre-ordered their upgrade to RDM Embedded 10.

Raima will continue to invest in our embedded database products in order to meet the market and our customer's requirements. I encourage all of you to be active and participate in helping meet these requirements by telling us what you expect to see in RDM products moving forward. In addition please don't hesitate to tell us what we are not doing well as this is the only way we can continue to improve.

Best Regards, Steinar

RDMe dataFlow - A Message From Bill Houglum, V.P. Engineering & Services
The Claremont Report on Database Research highlights that the industry of data analysis is growing rapidly. Data analysts are widening their reach within companies to obtain information that will help identify problems and inefficiencies in the organization in order to reduce costs or increase decision making intelligence. Recent discussions with many prospects, customers and attendees at trade shows validate that the requirement to access raw data as quickly as possible is not industry specific.

While the capabilities of hardware in devices deployed in various systems for industrial automation, aerospace and defense and telecommunications has improved dramatically, the devices are still not capable of providing the necessary predictable performance when tasked with performing ad-hoc queries from a curious data analyst.
dataFlow Illustration
The RAIMA dataFlow engine allows that precious data to be moved quickly and efficiently to an aggregation point that is not constrained by the real-time performance requirements of the embedded device. The design provides access to the raw data with minimal impact on production performance.

If your organization is requiring analysis of raw data in peripheral devices closer to real-time, the RAIMA DataFlow capabilities of RDM Embedded 9.1 can provide that access now. Contact your sales representative today for a demonstration.

Long Time Raima Employee Pam Marsh Retires
After 23 years Pam Marsh a longtime member of the RAIMA team has decided to retire. She has been a valuable member of the team working tirelessly over the years to help Raima's contract department run smoothly and efficiently. Many of you have probably had an interaction or two over the years with her relating to quarterly reports, payments, or contracts. Her duties are now being handled by Judith Lau who has worked with Pam in the contracts group for several years. We wish Pam the best of luck in her retirement! Her last day was January 15th, 2010.

Raima presented new dataFlow technology at RTECC 2010 Santa Clara
Raima exhibited at this year's RTECC 2010 Santa Clara on January 26th. In addition to exhibiting Raima representatives Scott Meder and John Pai presented their unique RDMe dataFlow engine at one of the breakout sessions. This unique dataflow engine enables real-time movement of information from the smallest devices up to the largest enterprise databases.

CRITICAL UPDATE - A critical problem has been uncovered with the RDM Server recovery process for versions 8.0 and newer. The critical defect may cause data corruption or a server crash if the server attempts to recover a transaction containing a BLOB_ID or a DB_ADDR field. The schedule for patches releases containing the needed fix is:

RDM Server Version Patch Issue # Est. Release Date
8.0 Q 1944 02/05/2010
8.1 O 1945 02/01/2010
8.2 C 1946 03/01/2010
8.3 C 1947 02/02/2010

If your database schema does not contain BLOBs or DB_ADDR fields, your version of the software is not affected by this defect.
