Native Networks Selects Birdstep Technology's RDM Embedded 7.1 as Network Switch Database
Native Networks Chose Birdstep's RDM Embedded Database for EMX Product Family
SEATTLE/OSLO - September 28, 2004 - Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD) today announced that Native Networks has selected Birdstep's RDM Embedded database management system as the database management solution for their EMX product family. RDM Embedded will be used in the EMX product family provisioning system to configure the system hardware.
Native Networks is a leading provider of carrier-class Metro Ethernet Access equipment and sub-systems, which enable the efficient deployment of a suite of Ethernet Services from Low-cost Internet access to high-value L2 VPNs over SDH/SONET or Optical Ethernet infrastructure. Birdstep RDM Embedded 7.1 provides data management in the provisioning system for hardware configuration.
Native Networks needed the ability to easily perform complex database activities in a high performance environment. RDM Embedded 7.1 provides the transaction support, data availability, and stability required to meet the high performance, fault tolerant demands of Native Network's optical access systems.
"We chose Birdstep's RDM Embedded because it is mature, reliable, and designed for embedded applications. Additionally, our data relationships are complex and RDM Embedded is uniquely capable of modeling these relationships without compromising performance. The fact that Birdstep's RDM Embedded is certified on Wind River's VxWorks 5.5 operating system and offers source code proved to us that Birdstep understands the needs of embedded application developers," said Raphi Hess, Native Networks Vice President of Research and Development.
"We understand that embedded software developers need full data management functionality in small footprints, and our products reflect this. Additionally, we see data relationships becoming more complex beyond what can be found in many relational databases, and the need for high performance increasing. RDM Embedded's hierarchical data modeling is ideal for modeling complex data relationships without compromising performance," commented Tom Clark, Birdstep Technology, Inc. CEO.
About The Raima Database Manager Family
Raima Inc. released the first version of the Raima embedded database in 1984. Since then the family has grown into two successful embedded database products. RDM Embedded pioneered the embedded market space under the name dbVista. Building on the success of RDM Embedded, Raima released the product in a client/server configuration under the name Velocis, now called RDM Server.
