Intermec Adopts RDM Embedded 7.0
Seattle/Oslo- June 15, 2004-- Today, Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD) announced that Intermec Technologies Corporation, a leading provider of supply chain information products, has purchased Birdstep Technology's RDM Embedded 7.0 data management solutions to be used as an embedded database engine in Intermec's RoutePower product line. RDM Embedded is a full-featured data management solution that supports a wide range of application environments reliably with minimal impact on system resources.
Intermec's RoutePower® 32 is a full-function Direct Store Delivery (DSD) route distribution application designed for Intermec's pen notepad mobile computers. Based on Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002, RoutePower 32's sophisticated route and customer management features allow sales representatives to make more informed decisions and more efficient user of their selling time.
"RDM Embedded has a successful history with us, so we had great confidence in upgrading to RDM Embedded 7.0 to support our data management software needs," said Intermec Director Bob Eckles. "We chose RDM Embedded for a number of reasons. It has a robust API set, the performance is excellent, and RDM Embedded provided additional features we required to support the upgrade of our applications to a services architecture. An additional benefit is RDM Embedded's database mirroring feature, which simplifies the development of fault-tolerant systems."
Birdstep's RDM Embedded has continued to provide Intermec with a reliable, highly expressive, zero-administration database. RDM Embedded was designed to provide an embedded database for business critical applications, and is completely transparent to end-users.
"With a connected world, the value and volume of data has exploded. This is why Birdstep continues to focus on providing functionality that allows our customers to manage data with the best performance and reliability. With RDM Embedded 7, we have implemented features such as XML to permit the exchange of data between XML aware systems and added a Java Interface to extend the high performance of our software to Java developers. Our unique mirroring functionality has had excellent market acceptance where fault tolerance and high availability are required. Intermec's continued use of RDM Embedded is a confirmation of our focus," commented Tom Clark, Birdstep Technology, Inc. CEO.
