Originally founded in 1982, as Raima Corporation, the Renton, Washington based company pioneered the embedded database research and development. With the initial release of dbVista in 1984, Raima established themselves as the market leader serving customers like Apple, Arco, AT&T, EDS, Federal Express, Hewlett Packard, IBM and NASA. As demand for embedded database functionality increased Raima took it upon themselves to introduce a client-server version of the popular dbVista engine. The Velocis product, released in 1993, found it's fame, and since then Raima and Birdstep has focused on this family to solve problems in the navigational space, switches and routers, financial trading, medical equipment, flight control systems, data backup solutions, and others.
Today these products, renamed to RDM Embedded and RDM Server , has served over 20,000 application developers resulting in over 20,000,000 deployments. Market leaders such as Johnson & Johnson, Beckman & Coulter, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, and other all rely on the rock solid transactional engines to handle their business critical data transactions.
